Lunch After GE Protest

I stopped in at 1515 Broadway for a Tuna Salad sandwich and some chai. Most of the people following what I've been doing recently know that I've been very active with Occupy Detroit and addressing social and economic justice issues of the people of the city.

Today I joined about 1,000 protesters as we Occupied the GE shareholder meeting held at the Renaissance Center. A contingent from the group protesting were in the shareholder meeting. My coverage of the event was from outside walking with Occupy Detroit and streaming video live during the action.

May Day is Coming - May 1!

Next to the sandwich in the photo you can see flyers for the May Day march coming up May 1st. It starts 10am in Patton Park, visits Clark Park & Maybury School at noon. The march goes to Michigan Central Station (old train station) at 2pm. By 3:15 the march visits the McNamara (Federal) Building and a rally at 4pm will happen across the corner at Rosa Parks Transit Center. The march continues to Grand Circus Park to arrive around 4:30pm. At 6:30pm Occupy Detroit will hold an assembly at GCP.

A contingent from Occupy Detroit is planning a 24 hour occupation of GCP from 6pm-6pm Thursday May 2nd. The night assembly will primarily be speaking & listening opportunities for community leaders and the public to unite forces and rally interest in causes around the city. Watch for direct action to be on the schedule for May 2nd, likely directed at the banks of the Financial District and / or around the municipal building.

Broadcasting Video

Our broadcast when covering events such as this is typically through Bambuser, but there are times I'm using Ustream or Livestream. We've looked at and tested out the capabilities of these three platforms plus JustinTv and Stickam.

Bambuser works well for bright daylight, permits zoom, selectable quality, and complement data is gathered during stream that is used to improve once the stream stops and fills in to improve quality.

Ustream allows my cellphone to operate the LED light during night captures. It also offers polling for viewers, and better text chat messaging than Bambuser. Share options include YouTube uploading.

Livestream is great for stationary activities and enables split screen broadcast of camera/desktop, or multiple cameras. It has no Android mobile app, and I've seen it say that it works wth Qik but have not yet had that work.
